Saskatoon police responded to a string of incidents involving bear spray on Thursday and Friday.
The first incident was reported around 5:15 p.m. Thursday in the 400 block of 33rd Street West, where police say two teens were seen fighting, and one allegedly deployed bear spray before fleeing the area. Neither the victim nor the suspect could be found after police arrived.
About one hour later, police say officers were called to the 300 block of Confederation Drive, where a group of six to seven youths had used bear spray inside a store in a shopping centre.
No injuries were reported, and the group fled before police arrived.
Later that evening at around 8:30 p.m., an officer patrolling downtown was flagged down by a man in the 100 block of 2nd Avenue South who reported that two masked individuals entered a business and discharged an unknown spray into the air before fleeing on foot.
Police say the spray was an irritant but did not believe it to be bear spray. No one was injured.
In a separate incident early Friday morning, patrol officers were dispatched to a weapons call in the 1700 block of 20th Street West.
Upon arrival, an agitated man was found holding a can of bear spray. He was arrested without issue and the bear spray was seized.
Police say officers found the 30-year-old man had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, and now faces charges of possession of a dangerous weapon and breach of probation.
