It’s known as the day of love, and for some Saskatchewan shops, Valentine’s Day also means a boost in business.
For one Saskatoon chocolate shop, it’s the busiest day of the year.
“Everybody’s thinking of their sweethearts, and they want to make sure they get it just right, so we feel the pressure today,” said Claude Hardenne, owner of Harden & Huyse Chocolates.
Hardenne says they have been preparing for the Valentine’s Day rush for weeks
“It’s fun; everyone wants to make that custom box for their loved ones, so we get to be a part of that,” store manager Carrie Fergusson said.

Meanwhile, Bill’s House of Flowers is expecting to fill roughly 2,000 orders for Valentine’s Day.
“It’s fun when there are lots of people in the store and lots of orders going out the back, but it’s very exhausting too. We were here for long hours yesterday, so we’re pretty excited when the day is over,” said Jana Ellis, owner of Bill’s House of Flowers.
Taking a loved one to dinner is also a popular Valentine’s Day tradition.

Thayne Robstad, owner of Hearth, says his restaurant is expecting 140 people for dinner, but he plans to celebrate Valentine’s Day all week long.
“For this entire week, it’s a Valentine’s-specific tasting menu. We’re calling it ‘Roses and Red’ sauce. It’s kind of a little cheeky Italian menu,” Robstad said.Regardless of what your plans are for Valentine’s Day, the sentiment is the same: appreciating the loved ones in your life.
