Teen girl arrested following bomb threat at University of Saskatchewan

A 17-year-old girl has been taken into custody after a bomb threat triggered the evacuation of several buildings on the University of Saskatchewan (U of S) campus.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police responded to a report of an explosive device in a U of S building in the 100 block of Clinic Place, the Saskatoon Police Service said in a news release.

Police say the U of S Protective Services were evacuating the building when municipal officers arrived.

“Protective Services is advising of an ongoing emergency event near Health Sciences Building and Murray Library. Please exit the building and notify anyone in your area to exit as well. Avoid the area until further notice,” read the alert sent to students and staff shortly after 7. p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators later identified a suspect and determined that there was no credible threat to public safety. The suspect, a 17-year-old girl, was arrested at a home in the 500 block of Egbert Avenue.

She faces charges for mischief and breaching court conditions.
