A handful of robberies at local ice rinks is causing concern for Saskatoon community associations.
It was a disheartening discovery for rink coordinator Mike Fuller. Last month, he found the shack at his community ice rink in Stonebridge was broken into.
Fuller says the rink had only been open for a month, when thousands of dollars worth of equipment was stolen.
“The amount of effort that the community has put in to get this rink built. The kids have donated money from their allowances for the community… and to see it only open a month and our stuff is stolen, it’s sad,” Fuller said in an interview with CTV News.

He says a snow blower and winter gear were taken.
On Facebook, the Eastview Community Association said its snow blower was stolen in November. The Avalon Community Association also said online that it’s gone through a similar situation a number of times.
Fuller says the Stonebridge Community Association has been talking with the City of Saskatoon about increasing security measures at the facility.
He said the association is going fundraise to replace the equipment, but volunteers have been shovelling the rink in the meantime.
“We’ll just keep doing what we can to have a good rink, so that the community and all the kids can use it,” he said.
