Two arrested in Saskatoon after suspected impaired driver strikes parked car, fence

Two people are facing charges after a suspected intoxicated driver fled from Saskatoon police early Monday morning.

Patrol officers first noticed the vehicle, a grey Dodge Ram, “being driven in a suspicious manner near Laurier Drive and Diefenbaker Drive” around 1 a.m. on May 5, police said in a news release.

Officers tried to pull the truck over, but police say the driver fled at high speed and struck a parked car and fence in the 600 block of Ells Crescent before lurching to a stop.

Police arrested two people from the vehicle — a passenger, a 19-year-old woman, and driver, a 29-year-old man officers believed to be intoxicated — and located a can of bear spray, methamphetamine and a stolen licence plate.

The 29-year-old man faces charges including dangerous and impaired driving and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

The woman, 19, was arrested on outstanding warrants and faces two new weapons-related charges.
