Two in custody after officer dragged by stolen vehicle in Prince Albert

Two people were arrested after repeatedly fleeing police with a stolen vehicle in Prince Albert on Wednesday.

Around 1 a.m., officers were informed a stolen vehicle had been spotted outside a business south of Prince Albert, the Saskatchewan RCMP said in a news release.

Shortly after 3 a.m., they found the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but police say the driver refused to stop and hit a police cruiser while fleeing.

Later that morning, patrol located the vehicle again. An officer approached, and police say the driver put the vehicle in motion, dragging the officer for a short distance. The officer was not seriously injured.

The vehicle was later found on Sturgeon Lake First Nation, where RCMP attempted another traffic stop. The vehicle again refused to stop, fleeing until it entered a ditch. The passenger was arrested, while the driver fled on foot. He was later arrested without incident.

As a result, 36-year-old Darcie Caisse and 25-year-old Brice Bird, both from Prince Albert, are facing multiple charges, including flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and resisting / obstructing a peace officer.

They appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Thursday.
