RCMP charge 2 men with second-degree murder in Saskatchewan Penitentiary death

Saskatchewan RCMP have laid two murder charges in connection with a death at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary on Tuesday.

Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with a recent death at Saskatchewan Penitentiary, according to RCMP.

26-year-old Eugene Caisse and 25-year-old Britain Volk have each been charged with one count of second-degree murder related to the death of Horace Bear, 33.

Correctional Service Canada previously reported that Bear had died on April 21 after an altercation involving several inmates within the maximum-security unit.

CSC said two other inmates were transported to an outside hospital for treatment from the incident.

On Thursday, RCMP confirmed that Caisse was additionally charged with one count of aggravated assault in connection to it.

Two other 26-year-olds have also been charged with aggravated assault.

Court dates for the accused have yet to be confirmed.

Volk was sentenced to life in prison for the first-degree murder of 35-year-old Aron Lunan in February.
