Gardiner Expressway to close this Sunday amid widespread TTC, GO train service suspensions

The entire DVP and parts of the Gardiner Expressway will be closed starting at 2 a.m. on Sunday for the Bike for Brain Health, which begins at 6 a.m.

Four blockbuster concerts, a massive cycling event and a beautiful forecast will make it a busy weekend in Toronto. But some major road closures and transit shutdowns could make getting around challenging.

Here’s everything you need to know:

DVP, Gardiner Expressway closed

The entire DVP will be closed starting at 2 a.m. on Sunday for the Bike for Brain Health, which begins at 6 a.m.

The closure extends from Lake Shore Boulevard in downtown Toronto to Highway 401 in North York in both directions.

On the Gardiner Expressway, all lanes will be closed from South Kingsway in Etobicoke to the base of the DVP in the city’s east end.

Both highways are expected to reopen by 4 p.m., but could cause headaches for motorists heading to the Diljit Dosanjh concert at Rogers Centre or A$AP Rocky’s show at Scotiabank Arena.

Fans of The Guess Who headed to Scotiabank Arena for the concert on Saturday should know that, although the Gardiner and DVP will be fully open that day, one westbound Lake Shore Boulevard lane between Yonge Street and Raptors Way will be closed all weekend long.

Parts of both the DVP and Gardiner were previously closed on the Mothers’ Day and April 24 weekends, respectively, for maintenance.

No service on large stretch of TTC Line 2

An eight-station subway closure will take place on the TTC’s Line 2 this weekend for planned track work.

The TTC said that service between Jane and Ossington stations will be replaced by shuttle buses on both Saturday and Sunday.

Runnymede, High Park, Lansdowne, and Dufferin stations will all be closed. All remaining stations will be open for customers to purchase fares and connect to surface routes.

GO train service suspensions

There won’t be any GO train service on a large section of both the Barrie and Lakeshore West lines all weekend for planned construction.

On the Lakeshore West Line, trains will not run between Aldershot in Burlington and Mimico stations. Replacement buses will be available along the route from West Harbour Station to Bramalea Station, where riders can transfer to the Kitchener Line to Union Station.

The Barrie Line is also closed, which means there is no GO train service at Downsview Park GO Station for Bruno Mars fans heading to the concert at Rogers Stadium on Saturday or Sunday.

Shuttle buses will run between Allandale Waterfront GO and the Highway 407 Bus Terminal, where riders can connect to the TTC to get to the venue.
