Toronto feels like -28 this morning as extreme cold warning continues in GTA

An extreme cold warning remains in effect for Toronto and other parts of the GTHA this morning but some relief from the frigid temperatures is on the way later this week.

The temperature is currently sitting at -18 C, feeling closer to -28 with the wind chill.

The weather will warm up to a high of just -11 C today but will feel more like -20.

The city will see slightly warmer temperatures on Thursday, when the daytime high rises to -6 C in the afternoon. The wind chill will make it feel closer to -18 in the morning and -13 in the afternoon. Active weather is also expected on Thursday. Environment Canada says there is a 70 per cent chance of flurries.

More seasonable temperatures return on Friday.

The national weather agency says Toronto will see a high of -5 C on Friday, -4 C on Saturday, and -3 C on Sunday.

While the cold warning is in effect, Environment Canada says the temperatures can cause a host of cold-related illnesses, including shortness of breath, chest pain, and numbness and colour change in fingers and toes. Frostbite can also develop on exposed skin “within minutes.”
