2 sexual assault charges laid against Abbotsford man as police seek additional victims

A 53-year-old man has been charged in connection to a pair of sexual assaults that occurred in Abbotsford late last year, according to local police.

Angelo Roefaro was charged on May 12 after an investigation by the Abbotsford Police Department Sex Crimes Unit that started in January, the department said in a news release Thursday.

The 53-year-old has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count each of assault, administering a stupefying substance and theft under $5,000, police said.

Roefaro remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing, police said, adding that his next appearance is scheduled for June 1.

The charges against him stem from incidents that reportedly occurred in December 2025. Police did not say where or when the assaults occurred, only that one was reported in January and investigators soon identified a second one involving the same suspect and a different victim.

The identities of both female victims are protected by publication bans, police said.

“Today, the Abbotsford Police Department is releasing a photo of Mr. Roefaro to assist in advancing the investigation,” the news release reads.

“The release of this image is intended to help identify additional witnesses, victims, or individuals with information relevant to Mr. Roefaro’s activities.”
