3 teens arrested after climbing tower crane in Port Moody, police say

Police in Port Moody say they arrested a trio of teenage boys who climbed a tower crane in the city Thursday night.

Officers were called to “a fully fenced construction site” in the 2300 block of St. Johns Street shortly before 11 p.m. “for a report of trespassers who were actively climbing a tower crane,” the Port Moody Police Department said in a news release Friday.

“Officers arrived within several minutes and observed the suspects who had ascended the crane,” the release reads.

The three boys surrendered and were arrested without incident, police said. They were later released to their guardians and investigators are considering recommending charges, according to the PMPD.

Const. Sam Zacharias, the department’s spokesperson, said large construction sites like the one the teens breached are “live-monitored around the clock with video and motion sensors.”

Trespassers will always lead to police being called, he said.

“It should go without saying: These stunts are not only illegal but dangerous,” said Zacharias, in the release.
