Days of heavy rain gave way to warmer temperatures and sunshine for much of B.C. Tuesday, breaking daily records in four communities, according to Environment Canada.

It was the warmest March 25 in 85 years for the city of White Rock, where it reached 19.3 C, surpassing the 1940 record of 17.2 C. That was also the warmest of the record-felling temperatures.

The mercury in Victoria rose to 16.3 C to beat a record from 1992. On the Sunshine Coast, a record-breaking high of 16.4 C was recorded in Sechelt.

Further north, Smithers surpassed its old March 25 record by a touch, reaching 12.9 C over its 2019 high of 12.8 C.

The federal weather agency notes that temperature records “have been derived from a selection of historical stations in each geographic area that were active during the period of record,” and its data could be preliminary or unofficial.

Environment Canada forecasts temperatures in the double digits into next week on B.C.’s south coast with periods of sun.
