A screen grab from Google Maps shows the impact of a closure on the Alex Fraser bridge on March 4, 2025.

A police incident on the Alex Fraser Bridge was causing major traffic delays in Metro Vancouver Tuesday afternoon.

The Surrey Police Service first announced the closure of the crossing to all northbound traffic around 3:15 p.m. Authorities closed one southbound lane as well, and urged drivers to find alternate routes.

The bridge reopened just before 5:15 p.m. and traffic was expected to “slowly” return to normal.

Vancouver International Airport also warned people heading to YVR of significant delays and stressed the need to allow for extra travel time.

Google Maps showed the ripple effect of the closure, with heavy traffic on alternate routes.
