More than thirty firefighters were called in to tackle a blaze that tore through a home in Chilliwack Sunday afternoon, the second within the space of an hour.
Crews from three separate fire halls were called to a building in the 46000 block of Yale Road at around 12:40 p.m., and arrived to find smoke billowing from the first-floor unit, the Chilliwack Fire Department said in a statement Sunday.
“Crews established a water supply and utilized an offensive attack that resulted in the fire being quickly extinguished,” the statement said.
Thirty-one firefighters worked swiftly to extinguish the blaze and ventilate smoke from the building, and were able to prevent the flames from spreading beyond the affected unit.
While two residents were displaced, no injuries to crew or citizens were reported, said fire services.
The event came just 15 minutes before crews were pulled in to assist Chilliwack River Valley firefighters in tackling an RV fire in the 50000 block of Winona Road. The blaze had been on the verge of spreading to nearby structures, the statement said.
The causes of both fires are currently under investigation.
