Two police officers and a suspect were taken to hospital Thursday afternoon following a multivehicle crash in Langley.
In a brief statement, local Mounties said they were working with the Uniform Gang Enforcement Team of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of B.C. to assist the RCMP’s Surrey Provincial Operational Support Unit on an ongoing investigation.
“Police became involved in motor vehicle incidents with the suspect vehicle and an unrelated civilian vehicle,” Langley RCMP said in a statement.
They added that the intersection of 200 Street and 36 Avenue would be closed to traffic “for the duration of the investigation.”
“Two police officers have been taken to hospital as a precaution for injuries sustained in the incident,” the statement reads. “A suspect is also receiving medical treatment for injuries unrelated to the motor vehicle incident. The driver of the civilian vehicle is apparently not injured.”
Video from the scene shows at least four vehicles – a sedan, two SUVs and an unmarked police pickup truck – with varying degrees of damage.
Police did not elaborate on what caused the crash or the nature of the investigation, but the involvement of the CFSEU-BC – the province’s anti-gang police force – suggests a possible connection to organized crime.
