Mounties say one victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a 78-year-old woman drove her SUV through the wall of a medical clinic in Salmon Arm, B.C.
First responders were called to the Hudson Avenue clinic shortly after 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
“A red SUV had come to a stop against an interior wall, after completely entering the medical clinic,” the Salmon Arm RCMP said in a statement.
Paramedics transported the injured clinic visitor to hospital, while the driver of the SUV was determined to be sober and uninjured, police said.
“Driver confusion appeared to be a major contributing factor in this incident,” Const. Andrew Hodges said in the statement.
“No criminality was suspected. There was potential for a lot more injuries, or worse in this incident.”
The RCMP provided a photo from the scene showing the clinic’s stone and stucco façade demolished and scattered into the clinic’s waiting room, where the SUV came to a rest next to the office’s intake desk.
