Growing B.C. wildfire near Stump Lake prompts evacuation order

A wildfire burning in B.C.’s Southern Interior has triggered an evacuation order for at least one property.

The Kullagh Creek wildfire was discovered Tuesday morning near Stump Lake, and has already grown to approximately 130 hectares.

The blaze is classified as “out of control” on the B.C. Wildfire Service website, meaning it’s expected to continue to spread.

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District issued an evacuation order early Tuesday afternoon for 8805 Kullagh Lake Rd., located in Electoral Area “J,” as well as any other properties that may be located within the red box on this map.

“If you are in the described area, you must leave immediately,” the order reads. “A person must not enter the evacuation order area for purposes of residing, occupying, or visiting the area.”

Earlier in the afternoon, tactical evacuations were ordered due to another wildfire burning out of control in West Kelowna. The affected properties were in the areas of Casa Loma and Lakeview Heights.

There were 14 active wildfires burning in B.C. as of Monday, more than half of which were classified as under control, according to a provincial dashboard.
