An employee of the Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care has been killed. On Thursday at around 10 a.m., emergency services say they were called to a crash involving a pedestrian who had been struck by a delivery vehicle on Church Street on the Waypoint property in Penetanguishene. Police say the pedestrian was a 61-year-old woman and, confirmed by Waypoint, was a member of the hospital’s team. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the OPP. In a statement provided to CTV News, a spokesperson from Waypoint says: “It is with profound sadness that we confirm that a member of our team died today following a tragic accident. We extend our sincere condolences to their family, friends, and loved ones. Their loss is felt not only by those closest to them, but also by colleagues across our organization who had the privilege of working alongside them. Our immediate focus is on caring for and supporting those affected by this loss." The Town of Penetanguishene says it has lowered its flags in recognition of the woman who was killed, as “a sign of respect, remembrance and solidarity with the Waypoint community.” No charges have been laid at this time. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the fatality or have dashcam footage to contact the OPP. The investigation remains ongoing.
