Guns, drugs, vehicles among items seized after multi-day police investigation in Kelowna, B.C.

Kelowna RCMP's coordinated special teams project led an investigation resulting in the seizure of guns, drugs, vehicles and cash.

A three-day investigation by police in Kelowna, B.C., has led to a mass seizure of drugs, guns, illegal cigarettes, cash, vehicles and other weapons.

The project, conducted by a special team put together by the Kelowna RCMP that included members of the Crime Reduction Unit, the Proactive Enforcement Unit, Kelowna Municipal Traffic and the police dog services, started Feb. 27 and came to a close March 1, say authorities.

In total, Mounties say over a combined kilogram of illicit drugs and over 100 illegal pills were seized, alongside 12,000 illegal cigarettes, four cellphones, five replica firearms, one restricted firearm and eight other weapons.

The operation also resulted in the location and seizure of $4,250 in cash, and the towing of 14 vehicles.

Officers who were involved in the investigation also arrested a man who had an out-of-jurisdiction arrest warrant, and dished out violation tickets to two impaired drivers.

Sgt. Scott Powrie of the Crime Reduction Unit said the intelligence gathered during the three-day operation made it “very clear” there are Lower Mainland crime groups conducting their business in the Kelowna community.

“While we remain committed to targeting and disrupting all criminal activity in our city, we will make it especially uncomfortable for those bringing their unlawful behaviour to our communities,” he said.
