A homicide investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead in Chilliwack Monday.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says Mounties responded to a report of a “suspicious occurrence” in the 7500 block of Vedder Road around 11 a.m.

“Upon arrival, first responders discovered the body of a deceased female and the area was closed off for further investigation,” reads a statement from IHIT issued Tuesday. “IHIT has since determined that the deceased female was the victim of a homicide and has assumed conduct of the investigation.”

The victim has been identified as Chilliwack resident Chantelle Ruhl. She was 37 years old. Police say she had no fixed address and was known to frequent the area she was found. Investigators did not disclose what may have caused her death.

“It is essential for investigators to establish a timeline leading up to Ms. Ruhl’s death,” said IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Freda Fong, in the statement. “We believe there are people who have information about Ms. Ruhl’s movements between Wednesday, April 16, 2025 and Monday, April 21, 2025, and it is important for us to talk to them.”

Police asked anyone with information or dash camera video to call 1-877-551-4448 or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
