Police have confirmed a man found dead after a suspicious fire in Langley over the weekend was a victim of homicide and revealed his identity in hopes of advancing the investigation.
The fire was first reported around 7:30 a.m. Friday in the 20500 block of 56 Avenue, in a mixed commercial-residential building. Mounties say they found a body inside the burned building after the blaze was extinguished.
In an update Monday, homicide investigators identified the deceased as Langley resident Tyler Smith. He was 47 years old.
Police say Smith had recently moved to the area.
“We are hoping that anyone with information about Mr. Smith will come forward,” Sgt. Freda Fong with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said in a statement.
“We are particularly interested in anyone who may have been in contact with Mr. Smith the recent days leading up to his death.”
Police asked anyone with information or dash camera video of the area the night before and morning of the fire to call IHIT at 1-877-551-4448 or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
