Homicide investigators seek potential witness in killing of B.C. man

The death of a 65-year-old man in northern British Columbia is now considered a homicide, police announced Friday, while issuing a plea for help identifying a person who investigators believe may have information related to the case.

Mounties say Gordon Sims was found dead in a residence in the 100 block of 5th Street in Vanderhoof on Jan. 14.

The B.C. RCMP’s North District major crimes unit took conduct of the investigation, saying the victim appeared to have died from suspicious injuries.

In a statement Friday, one month after Sims was found dead, authorities said they believe he was the victim of a homicide some time between Jan. 10 and 14.

Investigators believe the fatal assault happened where the man’s body was found, the RCMP added.

Police are now looking to speak with a person who was captured on surveillance images crossing a snow-covered street. Police did not say where the images were taken but investigators are hoping the public can identify the individual pictured.
