Christopher Carter (left) and Sandy Raposo (right) have been identified as the victims of a double homicide in Abbotsford on Jan. 3, 2025.

Police are identifying two people whose remains were found in a vehicle ”engulfed by flames” in a B.C. park more than six weeks ago, saying the pair were victims of a double homicide.

The burning vehicle was found on the afternoon of Jan. 3 in Abbotsford’s Sumas Mountain Regional Park, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said when providing an update on the case Thursday.

After firefighters extinguished the blaze, human remains were found but it would take another several days for police to confirm that there was more than one body.

Christopher Carter, 44, and Sandy Raposo, 48, have been identified as the two victims – with IHIT saying they are releasing the information in hopes of advancing the investigation.

“This is an ongoing investigation and investigators have been actively following up on a number of leads,” IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Freda Fong said.

“We believe there are individuals who know what happened to Chris and Sandy, and we are asking them to do the right thing by contacting IHIT. We are interested in speaking with anyone who may have been in contact with Chris and Sandy in the days leading up to their death.”

No information has been provided about what relationship – if any – the two victims had and authorities have not commented on a potential motive. They have, however, described the deaths as “an isolated incident” and said there is “no ongoing risk to the public.”

Anyone with information is urged to call 1-877-551-4448.
