A man has been charged in relation to an incident involving a gun-shaped lighter that left a citizen “traumatized” in Abbotsford, B.C., say police.
Police responded to a report of a person pulling a gun on someone in the 34000 block of Gladys Avenue at 5 p.m., Feb 25, the Abbotsford Police Department said in a statement Thursday morning.
The victim had been leaving work when he was confronted by the unknown suspect, who had asked for a “specific item,” said police, who didn’t specify what the item was. When refused, the suspect pointed the convincing replica at the victim as he tried to enter the car.
“This incident traumatized the victim as they believed that a real firearm was being pointed at them and felt their life was in danger,” said Sgt. Paul Walker.
The suspect fled on foot when police arrived, but was found and arrested within four minutes of the 911 call, said police.
Officers recovered a lighter gun, around 15 centimetres by 15 centimetres in size.
Richard Fekete, 48, has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon.
