Man stabbed in the shoulder in New Westminster, police say

A suspect has been arrested after an early morning stabbing Sunday in downtown New Westminster, according to police.

The New Westminster Police Department says it was made aware of an assault with a weapon on Clarkson Street around 7 a.m., and officers arrived to find a man with a stab wound in his shoulder.

The victim was taken to hospital with injuries police describe as not life-threatening.

Officers found and arrested a suspect after about three hours, the department says.

“The assault does not appear to be random as it is believed the suspect and the victim are known to each other,” a news release about the incident issued Monday reads. “The suspect was found to be violating court-ordered conditions.”
