Men charged in case of sexual assault, forcible confinement in Surrey, B.C.

A previous version of this story incorrectly reported that both men were charged with sexual assault. Only Gregory Philip Jolicoeur was charged with sexual assault. — Two men have been arrested and are facing multiple charges related to an alleged case of sexual assault and forcible confinement in Surrey, B.C.

Officers responded to a home in the 19400 block of Colebrook Road in the city’s Cloverdale neighbourhood on March 30, the Surrey Police Service said in a brief statement Wednesday.

“Two adult men have been arrested and charged in relation to this investigation,” the statement said, naming the accused as Gregory Philip Jolicoeur and Coltin Charles Lipus.

Court records show Jolicoeur, who was born in 1965, was charged with sexual assault, assault and unlawful confinement in relation to the case. The offences allegedly occurred on March 27, according to the documents.

A man with the same name is also awaiting court proceedings on charges of assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, according to the records.

Jolicoeur is currently in police custody pending a court appearance on all charges scheduled for May 6 in Surrey.

Lipus, who was born in 1993, was also charged with assault and unlawful confinement in relation to the alleged offences of March 27.

He was released from custody under “strict bail conditions” pending his next court appearance in Surrey on April 25, police said.
