Police in Kelowna, B.C., say seven people were arrested Monday as part of a drug enforcement crackdown in the city’s Rutland neighbourhood.

The Kelowna RCMP says officers were targeting an area near the intersection of Dougall Road and Highway 33, where the suspects were arrested on suspicion of drug-trafficking offences.

Investigators seized more than 100 grams of drugs, including fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine, cocaine and psilocybin, along with 19 cartons of contraband cigarettes, the local RCMP said in a statement.

Weapons, including brass knuckles and a Taser, were also confiscated, police said.

“Officers were successful disrupting criminal activity and were able to identify other potential targets for future enforcement projects,” Sgt. Scott Powrie said in the statement.

“We will continue to relentlessly target individuals involved in the drug trade, disrupting their operations and removing dangerous substances from our streets,” he added.

“The success of this initiative lays a strong foundation for future, more in-depth projects aimed at dismantling organized criminal networks and improving community safety.”

Police say $1,000 in cash was also seized as part of the one-day enforcement project.

Anyone with information related to the case or other alleged criminal activity in the area is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP non-emergency line at 250-762-3300.
