New Westminster police appeal for information in stranger sexual assault

Police in New Westminster are appealing for information after a woman reported being sexually assaulted by a stranger in his car.

The 911 call came in on Feb. 9 at 1:20 a.m., according to authorities.

“The victim called police for help and shared that a man sexually assaulted her inside his vehicle after he had offered her a ride,” a statement from the New Westminster Police Department said.

The man picked the woman up near intersection of 5th Avenue and 6th Street in the city’s uptown neighbourhood, police added.

The suspect is described as between 30 and 40 years old, and “dark skinned, possibly South Asian in appearance.” He was driving a white four-door vehicle.

Investigators are reviewing CCTV video from the area and canvassing for witnesses, but a suspect has not been identified or arrested.
