A man police say has a “lengthy” criminal history was arrested in New Westminster over the weekend after a witness reported seeing a man cocking a gun on a city street.
Officers responded to a 911 call about an armed man near the intersection of 6th Avenue and 7th Street around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, the New Westminster Police Department said in a media release.
“Police flooded the area and located someone matching the suspect description. The suspect complied with police instructions and was arrested. When the man was searched by police, a pistol was located in possession,” according to the NWPD.
The man remains in custody and police are recommending a number of criminal charges including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of probation.
The statement from police also thanked the person who called 911 and commended the officers who made the arrest.
