Pedestrian killed by pickup truck in Abbotsford

A pedestrian was killed by a driver early Friday morning in Abbotsford, according to police.

The Abbotsford Police Department says officers were sent to the crash on McCallum Road, just south of Busby Road, around 5:30 a.m.

“Emergency crews arrived to find a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a white pickup truck,” reads a statement from police. “The pedestrian was transported to hospital but, sadly, did not survive.”

Police say the driver is co-operating with investigators and impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

The facts that lighting in the area was poor and the pedestrian was wearing dark clothes are possible contributors, the department said.

McCallum Road was shut down between Marshall Road and Cannon Avenue for the investigation and will remain so for “several hours.”
