Mounties are looking to identify the owner of a dog after a woman was reportedly bit in an incident in Nanaimo, B.C., Wednesday morning.
According to a statement from the Nanaimo RCMP, the victim had been walking past a woman with a large dog on a leash on Superior Road, near Island Highway North, at 10:30 a.m. when the incident unfolded.
“As she passed them, the dog appeared to get spooked and turned towards the victim,” police said.
“The dog walker lost her balance and was dragged a short distance, before the dog bit the victim on the arm.”
The woman, whose bite required several stitches to treat, was only given the first name of the dog walker before she left the scene.
The dog is described as very large with grey, wiry hair similar to that of an Irish wolfhound, say police.
Anyone who may have information regarding the incident, or who can identify the dog or its owner, is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
Animal Control have also launched an investigation into the incident.
