Mounties are searching for a suspect after an alleged shoplifting attempt turned violent with the use of a machete in Kamloops, B.C.
Police received a report of a man who produced the large blade after an employee at a store in the 1800 block of Tranquille Road had intervened in an attempted theft, Kamloops RCMP said in a statement. The incident unfolded around 8:30 p.m., April 10.
Multiple officers responded to the scene, however the suspect had already fled on a bike before they arrived, said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn.
“Since then, police have obtained a photo and are releasing it to the public with the hope that someone will recognize the person and reach out to investigators,” she said.
Police describe the suspect as a white male with short dark hair, wearing a dark jacket, pants, and white sneakers with stripes.
