A handgun and half a kilogram of suspected fentanyl, crack cocaine and methamphetamine were seized as part of a dangerous driving investigation this week in British Columbia’s Interior region, according to Mounties.
A statement from the Kamloops RCMP says frontline officers were called to a motel in the 2400 block of the Trans-Canada Highway in the Valleyview neighbourhood of Kamloops just before 7 a.m. on March 23.
The officers were there to conduct an investigation into a suspect sought on suspicion of fleeing from police, dangerous driving and driving while prohibited, the statement says.
“While arresting a suspect, officers observed items consistent with drug trafficking inside the motel room, which led to them arresting another individual present and obtaining a search warrant,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the statement Thursday.
“A handgun, firearm magazines, cash, and suspected methamphetamine, fentanyl, and crack cocaine were seized as part of the ongoing investigation.”
Police said the suspect who was initially arrested for the driving offences was released from custody with conditions pending a scheduled court appearance.
The second person arrested was released without charges as the investigation into the drugs and handgun is still ongoing. “Officers continue to collect and analyze evidence, including forensic examinations and reports,” the statement said.
