Surrey police seek suspect in sexual assault of teen girl

Police in Surrey are asking for the public's help as they look for a man accused of sexually assaulting a teenager over the weekend.

Surrey police say one man has been arrested and charged and another remains at large after a teenage girl was sexually assaulted by two strangers late last month.

The incident reportedly occurred in a forested area near the 9800 block of Whalley Boulevard on May 30, according to the Surrey Police Service.

“Officers spoke with the victim, who was able to provide the descriptions of both suspects,” the SPS wrote in a statement Tuesday. “Officers were able to locate one suspect nearby and arrested him without incident.”

Ricky Randall Taysup, 38, now faces charges of sexual assault and sexual interference—which applies when the victim is under 16. His next court date is June 15.

The SPS asked the public to help identify the second suspect after police “exhausted efforts” to do so. He is described by police as a Hispanic man in his late 30s, about 5’6” tall and 170 pounds with dark hair.

At the time of the alleged assault, he was wearing a dark coat, dark ball cap, dark pants, light-coloured shoes and was carrying a number of dark bags, police said.
