Suspect punched jogger, tried to attack mom with child on Vancouver bridge: police

A suspect was arrested following an alarming incident that unfolded on Vancouver’s Cambie Bridge over the weekend, according to police.

The Vancouver Police Department said an officer witnessed a man punching a jogger on the busy crossing at around 10:50 a.m. Saturday.

The suspect then allegedly tried to attack a mother and her young child.

“Upon witnessing the assault, the officer activated his emergency lights and sirens to draw the suspect’s attention away from the victims,” the department said in a news release Monday.

“The man attempted to flee but was arrested at West 2^nd Avenue and Yukon Street.”

Charges have since been approved against North Vancouver resident William Sadler.

The 32-year-old is facing two counts of assault and one count teach of uttering threats and resisting a peace officer, authorities said.

He remained in custody Monday morning pending a bail hearing, according to police.
