Police in Abbotsford, B.C., have released new details, including a sketch of a suspect, following a sexual assault Monday in a forested park in the city’s North Clearbrook neighbourhood.

Sex crimes unit investigators say the victim, described as a female youth, was alone in Downes Bowl Park between 10 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. when an unknown male between the ages of 15 and 20 years old approached and sexually assaulted her.

The suspect has not been identified.

On Thursday, police said the suspect has a portrait tattoo on his right forearm. He is described as a dark-skinned male with a dark brown bowl haircut and a short beard. He was reportedly wearing grey pants, a grey sweater and white shoes at the time of the assault.

Investigators believe the assault was “a random incident,” according to a statement from the Abbotsford Police Department.

“Uniformed officers continue to patrol the area on foot and in vehicles, maintaining a visible presence in and around Downes Bowl Park,” the department said Thursday.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact the police department’s sex crimes unit at 604-864-4702.
