A lockdown at a school in West Vancouver, B.C. has been lifted after an unspecified threat caused a forced closure Thursday morning.
Students and staff were evacuated and a “significant police response” was deployed amid reports of a potential threat shortly after school opening time, the West Vancouver Police Department said in a statement early Thursday.
In an updated statement, police said the school has reopened after “no evidence of a threat” was found. While the facility remains closed for the remainder of the day, students, staff and parents seeking support are welcome to drop by, the update said.
Members of the public are asked to avoid the area as emergency services leave the scene.
Suzanne Birch, a spokesperson for the WVPD, said no further details on the incident can be released as “the investigation into this threat is ongoing.”
