Police have arrested two people in connection to a carjacking that took place in New Westminster, B.C., last week.
Officers were called to a report of a motorist who was forced out of his car by two unknown men while parked along the roadside at Winthrop Street and McDonald Street the evening of April 4, the New Westminster Police Department said in a statement Friday.
The two men who took off in the stolen car were arrested that same evening in Surrey, and the vehicle was recovered.
According to the statement, one of the suspects was found to be breaching several court ordered conditions and had outstanding warrants out for his arrest.
Numerous charges are being considered as the investigation continues.
Police say it was a joint effort between New Westminster Police Department officers, Metro Vancouver Transit Police, the B.C. RCMP, Surrey Police Service, the province’s Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, and the Lower Mainland’s police dog services to track down the suspects and carry out the arrest.
“This was a team effort to put a stop to these thieves,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver.
“Criminals should know that we’re coordinated, we’re sharing information, and we’re watching the moves they make.”
