‘We’re all in this together’: Anti-Trump rally held at U.S. Consulate in Vancouver

Dozens of anti-Trump protesters gathered outside the U.S. consulate in downtown Vancouver Monday.

An anti-Trump rally was held the U.S. Consulate in Vancouver Monday afternoon. Protesters called out the president’s attacks on Canada’s economy and national sovereignty.

Dozens of people gathered with signs and chants expressing fear and frustration.

Mark Thompson was one of the people attending the rally. He said he showed up for his kids and grandkids, fighting for their freedom.

“We’re all in this together and we need to stick together,” said Thompson.

Another person at the rally, Shaena Lambert, said she never thought she’d see the day she straps a Canadian flag to her back, but there she was.

“You’re with a lot of people who have the same concerns as you do; it makes you feel really good,” said Lambert.

But not everyone who attended was against Trump.

At the rally, Trump supporter Jamie Wu showed up with a MAGA flag and hat. He spoke with CTV News and shared that he got into debates with those attending the rally regarding Biden’s 2020 election win, which he believes was stolen. He says that is when the person he was debating with lightly pushed him. Vancouver police stepped in and asked Wu to leave, so he did.

Wu told CTV News that as a Canadian, he feels that Canadians should be supporting America.

“America is on the brink of a crisis right now. We can either be there explicitly supporting them, or we can let them go down, and if they go down, we’re all screwed.”

Wu also turns to the Canadian Charter and his concerns over limitations to freedom.

“The only way to have a functioning society is with Freedom of Speech,” he said.

Despite the turnout at the rally, there are still many Canadians in support of Donald Trump. A Facebook group called “Canadians Support Trump” has 3,233 members and sees posts of support every day. Another Facebook group named “Alberta, USA Statehood Movement” has 14,090 members, most of whom are Canadian.
