A man who sped by an unmarked police car and failed a breathalyzer after he was pulled over told the officer he was on his way to pick up his child, according to the B.C. Highway Patrol.
On the morning of April 14, an officer driving on the Nanaimo Parkway on Vancouver Island saw a sedan speeding and clocked the driver at 210 km/h in a 90 km/h zone, a news release from police said.
“When the car was stopped, the driver said he was going to pick up his child. He then provided two breath samples both of which had a reading of ‘fail,’” said Insp. Adam Tallboy with the B.C. Highway Patrol.
“Anyone who makes the choice to drive at extreme speeds while they are impaired is a danger to every person who uses the road.”
The driver, a 31-year-old, was fined $483 for excessive speeding, had his vehicle impounded for 30 days, and was handed a 90-day driving prohibition.
