Arrest leads to drugs, weapons, auto theft charges: WPS

A man recently arrested by the Windsor Police Service is facing drugs, weapons, and auto theft charges following a recent investigation.

On Wednesday, the WPS went to a home in the 300 block of Elliott Street East after a stolen 2008 Dodge Caravan was seen at the property.

Officers said they arrested a 43-year-old man who tried to get into the stolen vehicle. When the man was searched, a loaded handgun was seized.

A search of the suspect’s backpack resulted in 15.3 grams of fentanyl, 15.9 grams of cocaine, and 37.6 grams of MDMA, also known as ecstasy. Bear spray, a digital scale, and $240 of Canadian cash was also seized.

The total value of drugs is $2,212.

The man is now facing a lengthy list of charges including:

• Possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking, namely fentanyl
• Possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking, namely cocaine
• Possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking, namely MDMA
• Carrying a concealed weapon
• Possession of a loaded restricted firearm
• Possession of a restricted firearm without holding a license
• Two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order
• Contravening section 117(H) of the Firearms Act Regulation, respecting storage and transport of a firearm and restricted weapon
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
