Cold warning in effect this weekend, heavy snowfall expected Sunday

A cold warning is in effect this weekend as a polar vortex encompasses most of the province, bringing with it the coldest air of the season.

We could see wind chill values colder than minus 30.

The extreme cold can put you at risk and cause symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes. There is also the risk of frostbite.

There is also a special weather statement in effect due to heavy snow expected Sunday. The region could snowfall amounts reach 10 to 20 centimetres by Sunday night.

Saturday: Sunny. Becoming a mix of sun and cloud this afternoon. Wind up to 15 km/h. High minus 14. Wind chill minus 31 this morning and minus 20 this afternoon. Risk of frostbite.

Saturday night: Becoming cloudy late this evening. Snow beginning before morning. Amount 2 cm. Wind becoming east 20 km/h overnight. Low minus 15. Wind chill near minus 23.

Sunday: Light snow changing to snow at times heavy and local blowing snow in the morning. Amount 5 to 10 cm. Wind northeast 30 km/h gusting to 50. High minus 9. Wind chill minus 22 in the morning and minus 17 in the afternoon.

Monday: Clearing. High minus 9.

Tuesday: Cloudy with 60 per cent chance of flurries. Windy. High minus 7.

Wednesday: Cloudy with 60 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 9.
