LaSalle Coun. Sue Desjarlais was remembered at LaSalle's first meeting following her death.

Longtime Town of LaSalle Coun. Sue Desjarlais was remembered for her work in the community ahead of a town council meeting on Tuesday night.

The regular council meeting was the first since the town announced the passing of Desjarlais on Monday.

Crystal Meloche, the town’s mayor, described Desjarlais as a public servant who “poured her heart” into LaSalle.

“Sue had a special place in her heart for helping those in need,” Meloche said fighting back tears. “She spent countless hours volunteering with the local food bank, as well as the toy drive and always showing up with compassion, energy and a smile.”

A memorial video displaying videos of the late councillor was played before a moment of silence.

At her chair, a portrait of Desjarlais sat between two bouquets of flowers.

“We will carry her spirit with us as we continue the work she was so passionate about,” Meloche said.

Desjarlais had served as a member of council since 2006.

Meloche added details regarding funeral arrangements would be released through the town.
