Don’t abandon pets at ‘PAWR’ after hours

A Chatham animal shelter is once again, urging pet owners not to abandon animals outside their facility after hours.

Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR) says, it’s not only dangerous for the animals, but also for the staff trying to help them.

Officials say it’s a troubling trend they’ve seen before, with pets being left alone overnight in unsafe conditions.

It happened again last week, but PAWR says the organization is here to help.

Whether it’s a crisis situation, or if someone can no longer care for a pet, they encourage people to use the emergency number posted at the shelter or reach out by email or social media.

If cost is an issue, they say surrender fees can be waived or reduced if needed.

PAWR says its ultimate goal is to protect the animals, and they can only do that when people take the right steps to surrender responsibly.
