The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SCVA) has issued a flood outlook statement for all municipalities within its watershed.
The water systems over the weekend brought a lot of water, leading to the statement on Friday. The ground is saturated throughout the watershed, making it unable to absorb the rain.
“While widespread flooding is not expected at this time, localized flooding may occur in low-lying areas,” read the statement.
“Small watercourses may become overwhelmed due to runoff and exceed their banks, while larger watercourses may be close to overtopping.”
Everyone is reminded to stay away from all bodies of water and related structures, such as pedestrian bridges, culverts, and dams.
High water levels, fast moving water, and slippery conditions make water banks very dangerous.
If the conditions change, the SVCA will issue an alternative statement. This will remain in effect until Thursday at 4 p.m., unless otherwise stated.
