Freezing rain warning in effect, some areas expecting 10 to 40 centimetres of snow

The anticipated winter storm is on its way, bringing a potential 10 to 40 cm of snowfall to the region. CTV Windsor Meteorologist Gary Archibald has more.

The highly anticipated winter storm is headed its way towards Windsor-Essex and some areas are anticipating anywhere from 10 to 40 centimetres of snowfall.

“From supper time through to about 8, 9 p.m., we could see two to five centimetres with additional amounts later that evening,” said CTV Windsor Meteorologist Gary Archibald.

“These computer models suggest that anywhere from Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, we could see about 10 to 40 centimetres of snow.”

Archibald added that the heaviest bands will be further north.

“Not a good drive along area roads, especially the 401 corridor from Windsor-Essex towards Chatham-Kent,” he said.”

The weather is supposed to worsen into the afternoon on Wednesday. A freezing rain warning remains in effect.

Wednesday night: Snow changing to freezing rain late this evening, then to light snow before morning. Risk of freezing drizzle before morning. Rain near Lake Erie late this evening and overnight. Snowfall amount five to 10 centimetres. Wind becoming west 20 km/h gusting to 40 km/h overnight. Low -5 C, wind chill near -5 C this evening, worsening to -12 C overnight.

Thursday: Light snow ending in the morning then a mix of sun and cloud with 60 per cent chance of flurries. Risk of freezing drizzle in the morning. Wind west 30 km/h gusting to 60 km/h. High -2 C, wind chill near -13 C.

Thursday night: Cloudy periods with 30 per cent chance of flurries. Low -12 C.

Friday: Increasing cloudiness, high -5 C.
