HockeyFest coming to downtown Windsor this year

HockeyFest will come to downtown Windsor in May. Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island (TWEPI), the City of Windsor, and country duo The Reklaws have come together to put on the event.

It will support the Flo Walker Stardust Fund, in honour of The Reklaws’ mother, and Windsor mental health initiatives.

The event takes place at Festival Plaza on May 10 and May 11. A hockey tournament will take place offering different divisions for all ages and skill levels. You are guaranteed at least four games.

Upon registration for the tournament, players will get a complimentary ticket for the evening concert featuring The Reklaws, Nate Haller, and Griffin Palmer.

“We are thrilled for the City of Windsor to serve as the host community for HockeyFest this year,” said Mayor Drew Dilkens.

“Downtown Windsor will be buzzing with excitement as another unforgettable event arrives in our community. Thank you to HockeyFest and The Reklaws for bringing the world’s larges street hockey festival to Windsor, and for the work you’re doing to raise money for mental health initiatives both nationally and locally, to support folks in need.”

Dilkens also encouraged everyone to go to Chimczuk Museum to see the hockey exhibition, which is a travelling exhibition. You can see it through May 11.

“The display uses photographs and reproductions of key artifacts, memorabilia, and works of art to present hockey highlights from yesterday and today and looks at how the sport has influenced our lives,” said Dilkens.

Teams can have up to 7 players of all ages, which includes the goalie. It will cost the team $565. If extra players are wanted, you can add up to three more for $50 per person.
