Impaired driver crashes into utility pole, flips vehicle over: Windsor police

A 26-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges after allegedly crashing into a utility pole and flipping his vehicle onto its side in east Windsor late last week.

According to a news release from the Windsor Police Service, just before 5 a.m. on Dec. 12, officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision at the intersection of Lauzon Road and Wyandotte Street East.

Police say a white SUV had struck a utility pole, causing the vehicle to flip on its side.

While speaking with the driver, officers detected alcohol on his breath and observed other signs of impairment.

He was subsequently arrested and transported to Windsor police headquarters, where he failed a breath test.

No physical injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

As a result, a 26-year-old man has been charged with the following offences for his alleged involvement:

• Impaired operation of a motor vehicle
• Impaired operation of a conveyance with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit

“From now until Jan. 1, 2026, motorists can expect to see an increased police presence throughout Windsor and Amherstburg as part of the annual Festive RIDE campaign,” police said. “This province-wide enforcement and awareness initiative is dedicated to removing impaired drivers from our roads and keeping our community safe during the holiday season.”
