Nabbout acclaimed as President of Unifor Local 195

Emile Nabbout will remain president of Unifor Local 195 after being acclaimed to the role for another term.

Following a membership vote earlier this month, Nabbout will serve a three-year term. He has led the local since 2019, taking over after the death of former president John Toth.

During his tenure, Nabbout has overseen several high-profile labour disputes in Windsor-Essex.

In June 2025, he led negotiations for hotel workers at the Best Western Plus, who were on strike for two months before ratifying a deal in early August. A month later, Nabbout helped secure a new agreement for First Student Canada bus drivers.

He is also involved in an ongoing labour dispute at Titan Tool & Die, where workers have been locked out since August 2025. The union is seeking either a closure agreement or a new contract.

Nabbout said his focus remains on protecting jobs and ensuring fair treatment for union members.

“Whether it’s a trade agreement, ensuring our members receive a fair share of benefits during bargaining, or standing up like at Titan Tool, we’re continuing to fight for workers,” he said.

He added that unions play a critical role in representing vulnerable workers.

“People are vulnerable and without the union stepping in, they would be fighting on their own,” Nabbout said. “I take that responsibility seriously.”

Nabbout said his reappointment strengthens his resolve to continue advocating for members, particularly those involved in the Titan dispute.

“We are not going to let up, and we’re going to continue fighting on behalf of everybody here,” he said.

Unifor Local 195 and Titan Tool & Die are scheduled to meet again before the Ontario Labour Relations Board in June, as the union alleges the company is bargaining in bad faith.

Local 195 represents about 4,800 members across Windsor-Essex.
