Pelissier Street remains closed after a sinkhole formed in the road on Wednesday.
The road is closed in the 1200 block.
In a statement to CTV News Windsor, Michael Janisse, senior manager of communications, public relations, and customer service explained how the sinkhole happened.
“A failure in the stormwater catch basin lead connection to one of our old brick sewers resulted in a sinkhole on the 1200 block of Pelissier Street,” explained Janisse.
“Our City of Windsor Operations team promptly closed the affected area and conducted an immediate inspection to determine the root cause. Emergency infrastructure locates have been completed.”
In simpler terms, the connection from the catch basin to the sewer failed, resulting in the sinkhole.
Janisse added the repairs are expected to be finished by end of day Thursday, allowing the road to reopen for the Easter long weekend.
There was no impact on water or wastewater infrastructure.
Crews remain on scene and drivers are asked to avoid the area.
